The Admiral Fell Inn is old Baltimore, very old Baltimore. An anchor in Fell's Point, a seaport dating from the 17th century, the Inn carries on the tradition of providing a home away from home for weary sailors, merchant marines, fundraisers, professors…

Its 80 rooms and suites are redolent of that era with four-posted beds and handsome antiques (don't worry, there are also phones and televisions…). Outside, Fell's Point is boisterous and sometimes elegant–lots of pubs and plenty of fine and casual and fine dining (including the Inn's showcase of local produce and cuisine: True). A water taxi can even take you from across the street to the Inner Harbor!

I just (8/09) scoped out the new/old Hotel Monaco in downtown Baltimore and was blown away! It's carved into a classic Beaux-Arts office building of the gilded age. You'll feel like a railroad baron within (it was the old B & O headquarters) surrounded by marble and stained glass. The rooms, though, are all 21st century—expansive and with the latest technology.

New Baltimore with its sparkling Inner Harbor, world-class aquarium and thriving business district is embodied in the Pier 5 Hotel. This splash of color within flamboyantly jagged geometry is face-forward into sea spray. Located on its own peninsula jutting into Baltimore's working harbor, the Pier 5 is of the Inner Harbor and apart from it, too.

The rooms and public spaces, including a very swanky lounge area, extend the post-modern vibe and create a hip but very comfortable environment for relaxing or entertaining.
