Intrigued, I walked inside and entered the strikingly handsome lobby of the Mansfield Hotel. I decided then and there that I would stay at the Mansfield on my next trip to the City. I was not disappointed. Love this neighborhood, but maybe only like the Mansfield? It has its avid devotees since it joined our little network in 2002, but some find it too dark or its rooms a bit cramped (though our rates there are hard to beat and the place has great period charm).

A wonderful alternative (at likely a higher rate) is the nearby Muse Hotel, a sparkling Kimpton also in the Theater District. The Muse is bold and, yes, theatrical. It is also thoroughly modern with stunning public spaces, fine dining, and larger than average sized rooms.
