Hotel Burnham
1 Washington Street
Chicago, IL 60602
As I was conceiving of Academic Ambassadors, I knew that I had to pin down the major markets: New York, LA, San Francisco… and Chicago. Still, Chicago was elusive as I was holding out for the Hotel Burnham—the absolute model of what I'm trying to present to traveling academics. Well, it's a done deal, and you're going to love it.
Right in the Loop and across from Marshall Field's (have a mint), the Hotel Burnham with its white glazed terra cotta facade stands out even amongst the gems of Chicago architecture.
It is what's inside though that will blow you away. Its 122 guest rooms are stunning with rich blues and golds, touches of mahogany and marble and spectacular views of the cityscape below. Fully geared for work as well, the Burnham equips each room with fax/copier/printer machines. There is a fitness center and a full service restaurant, the Atwood Cafe, which serves American comfort food in style.
As with all of the Academic Ambassador choices, the Hotel Burnham is surrounded by the city's best restaurants and shops. The city's major theaters are just blocks away, as is Michigan Avenue and State Street. The Art Institute, the Field Museum and the Shedd Aquarium are within walking distance, as well.
I don't get to cover Chicago in my work, but I'm already plotting a vacation there with the Burnham in mind. For those lucky enough to be assigned here, I think the trip may be even more compelling now (and cheaper!).
In keeping with the Kimpton's arrangement with us, the Burnham is being offered to Academic Ambassadors at their Best Available Rate (BAR) minus 20% through April 1st (10% thereafter). To access this discount, click here. Our code GBP0330 will appear in the Rate Code or Global Business ID field. The savings will show up under their "Global Business Program".
You may visit their website at www.burnhamhotel.com.
Members: please note that the Burnham is one of three splendid Kimptons in Chicago. In fact, the Allegro there just re-opened after a multi-million dollar makeover; the Monaco remains one of the city's premier boutique hotels. And, a spectacular new Palomar has just crashed the scene and is already winning raves (from the New York Times and your fellow members!).
To discover the entire coterie there, take a look at www.kimptonhotels.com. Our code GBP0330, typed into the Rate Code or Global Business ID box on the reservation page, works for them all. Or simply click any of the links below to book now.
