Hotel Commonwealth
500 Commonwealth Avenue
Boston, MA 02215
(617) 532-5019 or
(866) 784-4000 (toll free)
When I lived in Boston's Kenmore Square back in the mid-80's a place like this would have been most
welcome, but mostly inconceivable. Well the Square is hip now and the Hotel Commonwealth defines this new
era. Where the Back Bay meets the Fenway (hello Green Monster!), this splendid new hotel combines urban
flair and deep comfort.
The "T" is within and will provide an easy trolley trip east into downtown and west towards Brookline;
arrayed within blocks are boutiques, movie theaters, the Red Sox (!), cafes and restaurants. But you need
go no further than downstairs for that.
Traveling into Boston from Western Massachusetts to fundraise, I have made the clubby environs of Eastern Standard a
destination for a casual (but not too casual) lunch or dinner with a donor. And, there are other terrific options just
blocks away (also, there are perfect meeting rooms for small and large groups).
The rooms are smartly furnished and technologically up to date (yes, WiFi), the linens Italian, and the soaps
and various sundries smell nice (L'Occitane).
I am thrilled that when I return to Boston, I won't be reliving my past, but instead recreating a very plush
version of it! I hope you'll enjoy it too.

Hotel Marlowe
25 Edwin H. Land Blvd (he's the guy who created Polaroid!)
Cambridge, MA 02141
(617) 868-8000
For those of you who'd rather be across the river in Cambridge (and I wouldn't blame you, I lived in that "People's
Republic" for five years), we have our standard and generous Kimpton-discount there.
to access 20% off their Best Available Rate (BAR) (for the remainder of 2010).
[as for all the Kimpton Hotels (www.kimptonhotels.com) our discount code for the
Rate Code or Global Business ID box on the reservation page is: GBP0330]
It's a terrific hotel. And, unlike a lot of Kimpton's historic renovations, it was built from scratch to their standards.
So, big rooms, the latest technology, fresh public spaces…
Boston's just a bridge away, MIT and Harvard are closer, a big mall is next door and my favorite art-house movie theater
is around the corner. Wish I was there!
